Abstract
Through the national programme for radiation safety, radon and thoron concentrations are being evaluated in the pyramids area at Giza. Active techniques are used for sampling in which Rolle method is employed for working level (WL) evaluation. Several pyramids and tombs are chosen for the present study. Only 4 out of 27 locations show slightly higher-values of working level than the US-EPA recommendations for the public (0.02 WL). The estimated maximum value of annual dose for the workers is around 0.3 mSv/y, which is about 1/10 of the natural annual background radiation.
