Two sources for examination of regulations requiring energy conservation features for new buildings are the state energy offices and the report of a nationwide survey by the National Institute of Building Sciences. Boston's Museum of Fine Arts, in the process of installing anew climate control system, was subject to the thermal section which required, max. winter 72°F and 30% RH and summer, min. 78°F and max 60% RH. The museum applied for an exemption for itself and all such facilities in Massachusetts. The exemption was granted, but the new restrictions on lighting are at this writing undecided. The article contains much valuable information about trial standards and final standards which should be examined by the cultural community. -- AATA
