Abstract
The main types of cyanophyceae (or blue algae) and environments in which they can develop on stone are surveyed. Some algicides have been successfully tested on cyanophyceae in the laboratory, but they might harm stone surfaces. Ultraviolet radiation can be as effective and appears to be less harmful.
