Abstract
The different inner structure, crystals size and porosity of Carrara marble and Istria limestone influence the formation of gypsum crystals due to a sulphuric attack, nucleation of gypsum and way of crystals growth are different for the two stones. The degree of surface alteration is another factor influencing the stone reactivity.
