There is a need for conservators to test the materials and methods used for the preservation maintenance of outdoor bronze sculpture. An investigation of the weathering of four wax coatings which have been used by conservators to treat outdoor bronze is described. Coated bronze samples were exposed at a test site in Washington, D.C. for a five-month period. The coatings were studied using microscopic analysis, photomicrography, macro-photography, contact angle of water droplets and infrared spectroscopy. -- AATA
