Field techniques of materials identification discussed in this review include chemical and acid spot tests, spark tests, fracture tests, hammer and chisel tests, file tests, thermoelectric characterizations, eddy current sorting of alloys, optical emission spectroscopy and x-ray emission spectroscopy.
