A new technique, discovered in 1977, promises to revolutionize radiocarbon dating by allowing direct detection of carbon-14 atoms. It is based on ultrasensitive mass and charge spectroscopy. Samples less than 1 mg. in size can be analyzed in a few hours. -- AATA
