Columnist Hershenson cautions darkroom workers against the dangers of contact dermatitis from exposure to photographic developers and ethylendiamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), both as used for color photographic processing. Chemicals used in processing black-and-whitematerials are less likely to cause such skin problems. Thorough and immediate cleansing of areas of the skin exposed to these chemicals with a pH balanced soap which is slightly acidic is recommended. The rash which results from this problem requires medical attention. Discard of chemical packages should be done with care, it is cautioned. -- AATA
