Abstract
Author lists reasons why copies are used in different situations and then addresses the problem of cast copies. Precautions to take in the execution of a cast are discussed to prevent specific damages which are identified. The casting process is described, and again potential sources of contamination that can promote degradation of the original sculpture are noted. Author recommends sculpted copy when a copy is necessary to protect an original work of artistic and historical value.
