Abstract
Radiocarbon or carbon-14 dating has been used by archaeologists and art historians since the 1940s for dating organic materials and some carbon-containing inorganic materials. A new era of radiocarbon dating began with the introduction of accelerator mass spectroscopy (AMS) in the late 1970s and early 1980s. This article describes the process of AMS and its application to dating art objects and artifacts. It also discusses the drawbacks of the technique. -- AATA
