Abstract
The structure of nonwoven fabrics requires special test methods. Some applications for nonwoven materials are quite different from conventional textile uses and therefore special tests are required. Some typical examples of test methods are mentioned which are selected to suit the end-uses. The establishment of levels of performance in tests to suit end-uses is discussed. This is compared with the performance profiles of some nonwoven fabrics. Among the tests referred to are quantitative image analyzers, fiber crimp testers, a tear propagation tester, and tests specific to the binders in the nonwovens. Tests of such parameters as flexibility, drape, and shear modulus, among others, are discussed in relation to different end-uses. -- AATA
