This report is a summary of a lecture given by Miss Philippa Lawrence of the Textile Conservation Centre, Castle Howard, England. The proposed textile conservation facility at Castle Howard will have a sewing room, laundry room, dry-cleaning room, and an area for drying. Climate control systems and UV-filtering of natural daylight will be provided. Several pieces of specially designed equipment will be included. The 9' x 5' washing table will have a heating unit underneath to maintain bath temperature. The spray system suspended over the table can be raised and lowered and used with either water or air. Other equipment will include a vacuum hot table, commercial pressers, and a specially designed dry-cleaning machine. The chamber of the dry cleaning machine will be six feet long by four feet in diameter to accommodate costume. -- AATA
