Abstract
This report is a summary of a lecture given by Mr. Milton Sonday and Ms. Lucy Commoner of the Cooper-Hewitt Museum. Cooperation between curator and conservator on several projects is discussed, including development of a flexible storage system with easy accessibility and a minimum of recordkeeping. Case histories are given illustrating how laboratory examination can confirm curatorial observations, and how mounting of a textile does not preclude curatorial study. Objects with previous repairs and fragments which have been pieced together are studied before determining treatment. Photographs are taken for a color slide reference file, for publication, and for conservation records. Lighting for the publication and record photographs may be manipulated to show certain aspects of a textile. -- AATA
