Abstract
This publication incorporates the papers and the discussion presented at a joint colloquium of the Palaeontological Association and the Geology Curators Group which took place in Cardiff in 1978. None of the papers is concerned specifically with storage but several include sections on storage. Doughty, in his survey on the State and Status of Geology in United Kingdom museums, reports on the conditions of stores and storage furniture. Rickards, in his paper on the Physical basis of palaeontological curating, describes the various stores at the Sedgwick Museum, Cambridge: how they have been organized and improved and some of the conservation problems. Gentry, in Curation of fossil vertebrates, discusses the practical options for storage and describes storage facilities at the British Museum (Natural History). Howie discusses museum climatology with special reference to palaeontological material and includes a section on Treatment and storage of pyritic fossil material. The volume represents one of the most comprehensive works dealing with palaeontological collections.
