Abstract
A historically very important site on the shore of Lake Constance had to be excavated. Due to the high level of the water of the lake, special techniques had to be developed to study this place, to document the archaeological evidence, and to treat the finds. Most of the work could be done by protecting the site by sandbags during the winter when the sea level was low. In some places, caissons had to be used. A large heated tent protected the site from freezing during winter.
