Abstract
A data base on the biodeterioration of stone works of art was created using the information storage and retrieval system TAXIR (Taxonomic Information Retrieval). Analysis of the literature showed a general lack of information on enviromental parameters, and difficulties in integrating data from various authors. Correlation analyses were made on the data, and the association ratio was verified whenever possible. Altough the amount of data and the significant variables presented do not permit generalizations, nevertheless the statistical methods used resulted in the quantification of the information collected and supported some interesting hypothesis for research, especially in the study of sulphur bacteria.
