Abstract
In a philosophical consideration of scientific progress the author, a self employed restorer of paintings, considers that it is sometimes better to avoid scientific examination of works of art, as they destroy myths. He cites the case of the painting The man with the golden helmet which seems not to be by Rembrandt. The painting has lost its fame, but it is nevertheless a fine piece of art, which should not be forgotten. B/W photographs
