Abstract
The history, chemistry, properties, uses and degradation of natural rubber are examined, with particular emphasis on early developments and the use of rubber in Europe. A method is described for reshaping stiff and brittle rubber objects, which were vulcanized by the coldcure process, i.e. Dipped and proofed articles such as raincoats. This method involves exposure to ammonia vapour, and is not considered to be permanent, but it would allow reshaping. 17 references.
