Abstract
Polymer history is illustrated with 19th century examples of cellulose-based materials such as cellulose nitrate, the discovery of Bakerlite, and developments in the 1920s and 1930s, when many of the now-familiar polymers were discovered often by accident. Examples of high performance polymers are also given.
