Abstract
A paper on the effects of development in conservation techniques on the art historical study of 14th-15th century mural paintings. The importance of photographic recording of restoration work is stressed, not only when strappo or stacco techniques are being employed but also because, once the scaffolding has been removed it is very difficult to observe mural painting techniques in detail. Annotated bibliography (27 entries), 5 photographs.
