The stone church facade of the Pavia Certosa was executed between 1473 and 1553. Later work, siting of sculptures, repair of damaged sculptures, replacement of stone materials, was carried out up to the 20th century. The studies on the stone elements of the facade take into account the facade area corresponding to the right hand chapels. Different stone materials were identified: Candoglia marble (pink, white, grey) for the facade; Carrara marble (white) for the sculptures and decorative elements. Other stones from the Southern Alps, Simona stone (purple), Verona stone (red), Vapenna stone (black), Oira stone (green), were also used with decorative aims. In addition, there are stones obtained from recycling stone materials from buildings of the Roman age (porphyrites, hiculleum, etc.). The Candoglia marble is in a fairly good state of preservation; Carrara marble is in a precarious state of conservation.
