Abstract
Between 1894 and 1912, paper print copies of more than 3000 complete motion pictures were deposited at the Library of Congress (USA) as copyright protection (subsequently the law was changed to protect non-paper items). In the 1950s copying onto 16-mm film was begun. In 1981 copying of another 1000 previously neglected titles was begun, but this time onto 35-mm film, with much better results. Now the possibility is being investigated of transferring images to optical disc form, to allow greater accessibility. -- ICCROM
