Experiments were based on 3rd century Romano-British wares, probably fired at 800-860°C. Wares were dipped in slip and chattered (not rouletted ) before firing in both reducing and oxidizing atmospheres, giving different colors under different conditions, e.g., placement in kiln. -- AATA
