Abstract
An overview of the techniques available for the recording of watermarks (rubbing, tracing, photo-sensitive paper techniques, transmitted light photography, low voltage x-radiography, beta-radiography) and a discussion of why beta-radiography was chosen by the National Gailery, Washington, DC. She also discusses the modifications to the basic technique which are necessary for the recording of large watermarks.
