Abstract
Some products of atmospheric corrosion of organ pipes made from tin-lead alloys are mentioned. On a surface of pipe the following compounds may occur: stannous oxide (SnO), lead oxide (PbO), stannic oxide (SnO<sub>2</sub>), lead dioxide (PbO<sub>2</sub>), stannous sulphide (SnS), lead sulphide (PbS), lead carbonate (PbCO<sub>3</sub>), and lead hydroxide carbonate (PbOH<sub>2</sub>.2PbCO<sub>3</sub>). The oxide deposits which are formed in a relatively pure atmosphere served as a mild anticorrosive protection in the range of pH 3.5-9.0. To clean a relatively thin pipe wall, an electrolytic method using 5% sodium hydroxide or a saturated solution of Chelaton 3 (Komplexon 3) is recommended. In many cases a wash-up in a detergent solution and a gentle repolishing by floated whiting, polishing rouge or Siloxid are sufficient. Also an application of the cleaning wool Feron which stepwise removes the corrosion products gives good results. For the final conservation microcrystalline wax with anticorrosive inhibitors Revax 30 is used. Some other special aspects are mentioned.
