Acid-free paper is one of the most important packing materials used for conservation of cultural relics. This paper reviews the development and application of acid-free paper in the conservation of cultural relics. It is suggested that in order to meet requirements for the conservation of Chinese cultural relics, more research on special acid free paper for conservation and the establishment of related appraisal standards should be needed.
