Abstract
A brief history of architectural conservation in Turkey is given. The six principles to be considered are: 1) proposals should promote conservation with a view to controlling urban densities; 2) proposals should not isolate conservation areas from the rest of the town or city; 3) transportation and traffic within the conservation areas should be carefully regulated; 4) conservation planning should reflect public interest and respect for the areas to be conserved; 5) conservation plans should include not only monuments and buildings but also the more modest elements, such as streetscapes, etc.; 6) conservation plans should promote public consciousness in its objectives. -- AATA
