In the western part of Switzerland in 1976 a kiln for lime burning was excavated. The construction of this kiln is precisely described and illustrated. Its contents were analyzed by the scanning electron microscope, differential thermal analysis, x-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry and other techniques. Bricks of the furnace were dated by archaeomagnetometry and the thermoluminescence method, from which a date during the Roman period could be deduced. -- AATA
