In Australia and Oceania the traditional applications of thermoluminescence dating are of limited use, in the first case on account of the absence of ceramics and in the second because the materials from which pottery are made are mineralogically unsuitable for a date to be obtained. The dating of non-ceramic materials, including sediments, therefore assumes major importance in the geographical region, as discussed in this paper. See also 20-147. -- AATA
