A clustering method which employs Gower's flexible coefficient and can utilize both qualitative and quantitative data is introduced. In a series of trials, using a set of Cypriot hooked-tang weapons, ideas concerning the weighting of attributes are tested. The resulting classification is compared with those produced by conventional methods, and the relative usefulness of both approaches is discussed.
