Abstract
Believed to be the largest work by Picasso in the United States, a theater curtain, 20'8 by 18'11 , painted in 1919, was damaged. The curtain, painted in highly water-soluble gouache on unprimed canvas, has become very brittle and needed relining. Special equipment, methods and adhesives are described which had to be developed to make preservation of this painting possible.
