The use of the precious metals, gold and silver, in over one hundred vases and utensils represented in the holdings of the Greek and Roman Department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art is described and illustrated. Historic and geographic locations as well as the stylistic background of these objects are discussed. The article includes color photographs and descriptions of the objects exhibited in a newly installed gallery. Specifics on working, casting, and finishing techniques are noted in addition to discussion of decorative details. -- AATA
