In this article, the author briefly discusses some of the basic issues of early Indian metallurgy, and his visit in 1982 to some of the areas where research concerning these issues is currently being conducted. The smelting of copper, zinc, and lead in Rajasthan, the production of Wootz, and the seemingly corrosion-resistant iron pillar of Delhi are mentioned in particular. -- AATA
