Using metallographic analysis, XRD, SEM-EDS and a micro-hardness test, the main micro-morphological properties of the silver relics from the Tang Dynasty CHEN Yuan-tong couple’s tomb in Fujian were described. Corrosion products were identified. Several different types of corrosion morphology were observed, which reveals why the silver relics are quite brittle. More attention should be paid to the brittleness of silver relics when they are conserved.
