The wrought-iron gratings and gates of the one-time royal palace were made at the turn of the century by Gyula Jungfer, the outstanding master smith of the age. War damage, natural deterioration, and vandalism have almost completely destroyed the richly ornamented lattice-gate and its railings. Some of these, such as the railings between the so-called Building A and the Turul statue as well as the lamp standards of the stairs, were reconstructed between 1977 and 1981. Replacement of missing parts was based on the careful examination of the orig-inal designs and that of the still existing fragments. The gate and the railings completed by the precise duplicates of the intact members have preserved their original aesthetic quality. -- AATA
