Abstract
This article is directed to those involved in architectural restoration; the brass considered is found in hardware, lighting devices, and furnishings. After a note on distinguishing solid brass from plate, the author gives various recipes and directions for removing old lacquer and paint, polishing solid brass, using a buffing wheel, cleaning brass plating, and protective finishes such as oil and lacquer. (Abstractor's note: Suggested remedies lean more towards commercial and household methods than to standard conservation laboratory techniques.)
