Abstract
Iron objects in storage may sometimes disintegrate by breaking into wedges or into flakes. In this explanation of the phenomenon, Knight describes the layer structure of a corroded iron artifact and the formation of unstable corrosion products. Storage methods which may circumvent this occurrence are now being tested. See also AATA 20-957 for reference to entire book. -- AATA
