Abstract
This article is directed towards tool collectors, and is based on Plenderleith and Werner's The Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art (see IIC 1-993). Using household equipment, the method employs a stainless steel anode connected to a battery charger, and a solution of household lye. Light scrubbing between treatments is recommended, with a short final rinse followed by heating in an oven. Hard wax is suggested as a coating. Some safety precautions are also included. (Editor's note: this treatment may not be suitable for certain museum objects.) -- AATA
