Abstract
Dezincification, pitting corrosion, and grain boundary attack are some of the prevalent types of corrosion failures among brasses. The tendency for dezincification has been found to increase with the increase in zinc content beyond 15% and this seriously limits the use of brasses having higher zinc content. ln the past decade, many studies have been conducted to minimize the general corrosion rate of brasses by using organic inhibitors and other techniques, but little attention has been paid to control the dezincification rate in high zinc brasses. In the present investigation, malachite green, congo red, crystal violet, alizarin, and methyl orange along with benzotriazole (BTA) have been used as mixed inhibitors for minimizing the corrosion and the dezincification rate of 63/37 brass in 1% H<sub>2</sub>SO<sub>4</sub> solution.
