Abstract
This study uses evidence from ancient texts to reconstruct the movement of specialized craftsmen in the pre-classical period in the Near East. The patterns of movement are considered as redistributive, reciprocative, and commercial: this includes local shortages of craftsmen, craftsmen viewed as prestige goods, or movement in search of better employment. -- AATA
