Abstract
The history of Chinese painting and calligraphy whose carrier was generally silk or paper, was more than two thousand years. Because of the long history, the damage of the silk and paper due to aging or other natural and artificial factors is inevitable. During their conservation and restoration, a special mounting technique was developed. Through researches and experiences, this study has summarized the working procedure: painting cleaning, back paper removing, hole mending, painting paper remounting, and inpainting. By comparing two pieces of painting and calligraphy before and after-restoration, the mounting technique was approved. A scientific restoration theory was developed during the practical experience, which may effectively direct the restoration of Chinese old painting.
