Abstract
In order to find a scientific way to evaluate the degradation of archaeological wood, 13 kinds of woods, of 8 species, were collected as study objects, and a comparative study between archaeological woods and new ones was conducted, including their indexes of moisture content, shrinkage, basic density, air-dried density and holocellulose. The results showed that the basic density and the maximum moisture content of the wood can be used as the physical indexes of the degradation of archaeological wood.
