The cultural landscape is composed of a large variety of sub-landscapes, each possessing an individual historical background and interaction with surrounding environmental units. The diversity of the cultural landscape develops very early and becomes more and more varied towards the present time. A few examples of ancient sub-landscapes are given; it is emphasized that the archaeological, palynological, and conservation interest in the cultural landscape and its history should be conducted as studies of the diversity of the landscape at different time levels. The individual units and their internal development should also be treated, and special interest in urban and industrial sub-landscapes encouraged. (See also <b>AATA</b> <i>20-32</i>) -- AATA
