The author cites a manuscript of the 18th century, in which pigments, paint lacquers, and the technique of painting in this period are described. Besides well known dyes, which are of historical interest only, for instance: azurite, malachite, ultramarine, smalt, vegetable lacquers, verdigris, etc., methods are related concerning preparation of grounds and descriptions of paint applications, and of the final varnishes. Remarks and commentaries from the present day point of view conclude the article.
