Abstract
The author, who is the Director of Publications of the Council on Library Resources, traces historical attempts to create durable paper for books and newspapers, beginning with the fifteenth century. Since it is too expensive to microfilm, de-acidify or laminate every book printed, new solutions must be found. An account is given of the work in progress at the W.J. Barrow research laboratory in Richmond. -- AATA -- AATA
