A letter to the editor concerning the use of the Chelsea filter written in response to an article by David A. Stoney in <i>The Microscope</i>, vol. 38, first quarter, 1990, pp. 67-81. Describes filter combinations which can be used instead of the Chelsea filter including the combination of a Kodak Wratten 45A and a Wratten 15. This author confirms the observations made by Stoney on pigments, notably the reds produced by ultramarine, smalt, and cobalt blue.
