Assuming that drilled holes were made for repairs, their higher frequency in Grooved Ware tradition pots (as compared with Beaker or Peterborough wares) suggests a wish to retain this pottery for its symbolic value. The earlier Neolithic assemblage from Maiden Castle also shows some repair holes in various wares, including both local and gabbroic.
