<i>Rose et Vert l'Iris: Portrait of Miss Kinsella</i>, an unfinished full-length portrait by James McNeill Whistler, has darkened considerably. Cross-sections from the painting were mounted in an acrylic resin and examined with the polarized light microscope to determine the layer structure and cause of the darkened condition.
