The action of solar radiation in reducing the strength of cotton is well known. Fabrics treated with copper soaps and cuprammonium may lose 70-80 percent of their strength during twelve months exposure. Anatase accelerates the actinic degradation of cotton and rutile has a protective effect. These effects seem to also be similar when anatase and rutile are used in paint.
