The author sums up the condition of the Usuki Stone Buddhas as follows: the Sannosan group seems to be in a relatively good state. However, all the other groups suffer from flaking, and the Furusono group, in particular, suffers from biological attack. The most important measure to take is to prevent the surface of the statues from being wetted regularly. A selected water repellent, applied in the correct way, can provide much help. In order to prevent the many flakes from being lost in the near future, a local adhesive can be used. A general surface consolidation also seems necessary, although this can only be decided after more in depth examinations.
